It's a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood

We've all heard it said that variety is the spice of life. Well, Milwaukee's got it in spades. Experience this majority minority city's true cultural variety by spending time in our diverse neighborhoods.

Visit Historic Brady Street for everything from bakeries and markets to furniture, art and jewelry. Brady Street is an ethnically diverse community near downtown Milwaukee with an architectural tapestry of styles, materials and building types. Most of the buildings were constructed between 1860 and 1930 and created a distinctive neighborhood that served as a main street for its immigrant community. Ethnic influences to the area include Irish, German, Polish, Italian, and most recently, Russian. The street is known for its unique mix of specialty shops.

Next get a glimpse of the city's early German roots with a visit to Old World Third Street. Here you'll find cobbled stone streets, unique architecture and great sausage, cheese and spice shops.

In the middle of Old World Third Street is Mader's, a Milwaukee mainstay that has been voted the most famous German restaurant in North America. Stop by for lunch and, in addition to rustic German fare, you'll find a $3 million collection of Medieval Germanic weaponry and a twenty-foot, hand carved oak table and captains' chairs that once graced Germany's famed Red Baron's castle.

Spend your afternoon in the Historic Third Ward. A turn-of-the-century wholesale and manufacturing district, this area now houses chic boutiques, a high concentration of art galleries and unique specialty stores. Be sure to check out the Milwaukee Public Market, home to 20 specialty food vendors offering the best of Wisconsin's agricultural heritage.

For an excellent dinner, to take in a show, or just to see if Lady Luck is on your side, make a trip to Milwaukee's Menomonee Valley (only minutes from downtown) to experience one of the Midwest's premiere entertainment destinations. Potawatomi Bingo Casino has three restaurants, including the elegant Dream Dance, a cabaret-style theatre and Las Vegas-style gaming.
