Fun on a Bun

VISIT Milwaukee

There is much to be thankful for in Wisconsin. The Packers. The Badgers. Some of the greatest breweries in the world. Friends. Most, er some, well, select family members. And, of course, the holidays. Turkey and stuffing. Cranberry sauce and mashed potatoes. Seasonal brews that only show their tasty heads during this cold, yet very warm, time of the year. It is definitely one of the best times of the year.

That’s what the folks at Miller Time Pub inside the Hilton Milwaukee City Center think, too. So much so they’ve combined all your favorites into the ultimate sandwich - Thanksgiving on a Bun. That’s right, Thanksgiving on a Bun. This is no Easter on a Bun (AKA ham sandwich). It’s definitely not New Year’s Eve on a Bun (AKA ham sandwich with a streamer). And it’s certainly not Fourth of July on a Bun (AKA ham sandwich with a sparkler).

This is oven-roasted turkey, cranberries and stuffing stacked high between three freshly-baked buns. Think if your mom was going to make her version of a Thanksgiving Big Mac, she’d make this...and serve it with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. Then your dad would offer you a Leinenkugel’s Fireside Nut Brown Ale and go on and on about its roasted malt character, maple aroma and pronounced chocolate, caramel and hazelnut top notes. Ahhh, select family at Thanksgiving.

But, unlike Thanksgiving, this Miller Time Pub offering is no one-time meal. It’s served through November 30, so Thanksgiving extends until the end of November. As if that’s not gift enough, it’s just $7! But, like all good things, even the ultimate sandwich must also come to an end. Luckily, the geniuses (genius status achieved via the likes of Ale Tempura Battered Chicken, the Cast Iron Tailgate Brat and offerings of Copper Top Ale and Blue Moon Winter Abbey) at Miller Time Pub have the perfect segue from one holiday to another: Ho Ho Happy Hour.

The Ho Ho Happy Hour is Miller Time Pub’s second gift to us for the holidays - every Thursday in December (some of us have a birthday on one of those Thursdays - so Ha Ha Happy will he be!). All you have to do is don holiday attire and you’ll save like Santa all month long! Here’s a list of the Ha Ha Happenings between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Thursdays at Miller Time Pub:

  • Bring in an entire table of friends dressed in holiday attire (4 or more): Buy one, get one cocktails and wines and half off appetizers.
  • Wear a full Santa or elf suit: $1 domestic taps, $2 craft taps, $3 import taps and half off entire menu

BONUS: Save up to $2.50 off your beer by mixing and matching holiday items:

  • Wear a Santa hat or holiday hat: $.50 off your beer
  • Wear holiday socks or shoes: $.50 off your beer
  • Wear a holiday sweater, shirt, or vest: $.50 off your beer
  • Wear holiday jewelry: $.25 off your beer for each item up to 4 items (pair of earrings count as 1)

SUPER DUPER BONUS: Miller Time Pub has tons of HD flat screens (the bathroom’s the only place you will not have a view of a football game) and a ginormous amount of seating. Plus, it’s quick and easy to get to at 4th and Wisconsin.

My holiday/birthday list definitely includes a return to Miller Time Pub. Ho Ho hopefully two or three visits. After all, I finally have a reason to wear those Christmas tree socks mom bought me. And the red holiday vest. Ahhh, family.
