Stick it to me State Fair!

One of the best things about going to the The Wisconsin State Fair is trying all the food you’re not likely to find anywhere else.
Simply put, the Fair has something for everyone. The abundance of choices is amazing! You could eat something different on a stick for a week straight without having the same food twice. You’ll find brats, burgers, pizza, barbecued pork… okay, I’ll stop there. We don’t need you drooling on your keyboard.
I was interested in trying some of the more unique items at the Fair. So I ate. And then I ate some more. Among the highlights of what I tried:

Duck fajitas Deep fried peanut butter & jelly on a stick

Deep fried bacon-wrapped hot dog on a stick Corn nuggets on a stick

Cheese curds Elvis on a stick
My favorites are the deep fried peanut butter and jelly, deep fried bacon-wrapped hot dog and the Elvis. First up, the deep fried peanut butter and jelly. I love the combination of PB&J, and getting it warm and gooey with a delicious batter on the outside makes it that much better.
The bacon-wrapped hot dog appears ordinary, since it’s not deep fried in batter, but everything tastes just right. The bacon adds the perfect amount of flavor to the hot dog without overpowering it. It’s a good alternative for those who want something savory without a chunk of fried batter around it.
And then there’s the Elvis. What a delicious treat this is. A peanut butter cup is tempting enough. So imagine that peanut butter cup melted into a chocolatey, peanut buttery ooze, then surrounded by banana batter. Trust me, it’s as good as it sounds!
And of course, no trip to a Wisconsin event is complete without munching on some cheese curds. They never fail to deliver.
The Wisconsin State Fair runs through Sunday, so you’ve still got time to discover your own favorite Fair foods. I am already contemplating a return for round two.
Have you visited the Fair this year? What have you tried there that left you wanting more? Leave a comment and let us know!
