America's Largest Polish Festival Turns 29

Milwaukee - June 11, 2010- Head to Milwaukee for traditional dance, food and spirits, Polish mass and more at America's Largest Polish Festival June 18 through June 20 at Henry W. Maier Festival Park. Milwaukee Polish Fest features a cultural village and marketplace with traditional souvenirs, folk art and cooking classes, five entertainment stages, non-stop polka music and plenty of Polish food and drinks to go around.

"Milwaukee celebrates its heritage with major ethnic festivals almost every weekend in summer," said VISIT Milwaukee President and CEO, Paul Upchurch. "In a short drive or train ride North Chicagoans can plan a weekend trip to sample the cultures of the world with traditional food, music, dances, art and celebrations."

The Cultural Village at Polish Fest will feature a multimedia presentation on Fryderyk Chopin and an exhibit on Ignacy Paderewski, both renowned Polish pianists and composers. This year is Chopin's 200th birthday and Paderewski's 150th. On Sunday, Chopin will be further honored with the 12th Annual Chopin Youth Piano Competition.

Tyskie Polish Beer will be available at this year's Polish Fest, along with Polish vodkas, meads and liqueurs, available at various tastings. Visitors can find over 20 different restaurants to complement their Polish beverages, including those with traditional Polish ham, Polish sausage, pierogi, placki ziemniaczane (potato pancakes), bigos (hunger's stew), zupa grzybowa (mushroom soup), czarnina (duck blood soup), pączki, chruściki (deep-fried pastry) and zapiekanki (open-faced pizza bread sandwich).

Catholic Mass will be held at 10:15 a.m. on Sunday morning, in both English and Polish. Most Rev. Jerome E. Listecki, Archbishop of Milwaukee, will preside.
