Mitchell International Airport Fourth Best
11/01/2007
2007 Condé Nast Readers' Choice Awards ranking
General Mitchell International Airport has been named the fourth-best airport in the nation according to Condé Nast's 10th annual Readers' Choice Awards.
Appearing in the magazine's October 2007 issue, the ranking is based on location, access, design, baggage, safety, food shops and other amenities.
Milwaukee's ranking is up from fifth overall in 2006. Mitchell also ranked number one in the category of ease of connections.
According to Doug Neilson, president and CEO of VISIT Milwaukee, "Traveling in today's world can be very hectic, so we take great pride in General Mitchell International Airport and its fourth-best ranking by readers of Condé Nast. And to be considered number one in ease of connections is a great testimony to our brand promise that Milwaukee is ‘an easy city with a warm brand of hospitality that will surprise and delight'."
In recent years, the airport has undergone a more than $50 million expansion and renovation of all three-airport concourses, including additional security checkpoint lanes, additional boarding gates, new ground-level gates, larger airline gate seating areas, wider corridors between gates, and atrium and clerestory windows that let in more natural light.
General Mitchell International supports 13 airlines that offer nonstop and direct flights to more than 90 cities in the United States and one-stop connections to major cities throughout the world.
