Milwaukee Offers PGA Visitors Plenty to See and Do
MILWAUKEE- July 23, 2010 - Renowned golfers from around the world will converge on Wisconsin when the 92nd PGA Championship comes to Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis. August 9 - 15. Its convenient location just an hour north of Milwaukee offers golf enthusiasts a lot to enjoy both on and off the course.
Milwaukee's Brown Deer Park golf course, former host to the U.S. Bank Championship, attracted more than 100,000 spectators annually and some of the best talent on the PGA circuit. Play the par-70, 6,759 yard course the pros played, ranked one of the five best municipal courses in the nation by Golf Digest magazine. Milwaukee County is home to one of the nation's best park systems, and Milwaukee County Parks' 15 golf courses offer a challenging game for all levels. Milwaukee also offers plenty to do when you're not on the links!
It wouldn't be a visit to Milwaukee without a brewery tour. Lakefront Brewery, a Milwaukee landmark for the past 20 years, offers tours, family-style dining for their traditional Friday fish fry and award-winning beers. The Sprecher Brewery has been making original Craft Beers and gourmet sodas in Milwaukee since 1985. The microbrewery holds tours where visitors can sample beers and sodas. For a snack or full meal, check out the Horny Goat Hideaway. The brewpub celebrated its grand opening this summer and boasts the largest outdoor patio in Milwaukee along the Kinnickinic River. If you can't choose just one, board the Brew City Queen II for a cruise on the Milwaukee River and sample beers at guided brewery tours of three microbreweries. The four-hour cruise runs on Saturdays and Sundays and visits Milwaukee Ale House, Lakefront Brewery and Rock Bottom Brewery.
For a little more noise than you'll find on the course, head over to the Harley-Davidson Museum. This Milwaukee staple has something for everyone - interactive exhibits explaining how an engine works, a chronological succession of motorcycles including Serial Number One, an engine wall with real sounds of Harley-Davidson engines, Elvis's bike and more. Don't miss the True Evel exhibit through Sept. 6, complete with motorcycles, memorabilia and costumes, celebrating the life and death-defying records of Evel Knievel. The exhibit is the largest the museum has ever organized and displayed, and the first retrospective on Evel's life.
Visit Miller Park for the Milwaukee Brewers' series against the Arizona Diamondbacks August 9 through 12. The park's fan-shaped convertible roof is the only one in North America, and its unique configuration, featuring intimate proximity to the players, natural grass and deluxe amenities makes it one of the premiere stadiums in the country.
The 159th Wisconsin State Fair runs through August 15. Experience Wisconsin traditions with Fair favorites such as cream puffs and a menagerie of food served on a stick. The popular "big slide" and "racing piglets" can be found each year as well. From animals and agriculture, a popular headlining band each night, markets and a wide variety of exhibitions, the Fair offers something for everyone.

Malibu Open comes to Veteran’s Park Lagoon Aug 6-7
Milwaukee - July 15, 2010 - Milwaukee's lakefront Veteran's Park Lagoon will host its first ever waterskiing event when the Malibu Open makes its debut on August 6-7. The world's top professional water ski athletes will compete in traditional slalom and long-distance jumping events for $50,000 in prize money. Free-style jumping and barefoot skiing demonstrations round out the exciting 2-day program, which is open to the public with free admission.
The Malibu Open is enjoying a whole new popularity with the range of athletes from Will Asher, World Slalom Champion, to Freddy ("Nightmare") Krueger, currently World Jump Champion and World Record Holder. Similar events have been held in California, Michigan and Alabama.
In slalom skiing, athletes navigate through a six-buoy course at constant speeds of 36 mph at a initial 13-meter line. After completion of each pass, the rope is shortened to increase difficulty. In the breathtaking long-distance jumping, skiers race toward a 6-foot high ramp reaching speeds of 70 mph. World Champion Freddy Krueger, known as the "Michael Jordan of Long Distance Ski Jumping," recently jumped a phenomenal 236 feet at the Global Invitational night finals held in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
According to event organizer Dana Reed, "Professional waterskiing events are usually held on private lakes, so we are very excited about the perfect venue that Milwaukee offers the Malibu Open. People might be surprised to learn that the lagoon meets the minimum width and length requirements. Finals will be held Saturday night at 7:30 p.m., with 18 light towers lighting up the lagoon so it resembles an airport runway."
The Malibu Open is a free event for family, friends and all to enjoy. The event is produced by Pro Slalom Events and sponsored by Malibu Boats. Concessions and parking will be organized by the Milwaukee County Parks Department.
