Milwaukee Art Museum Named World's Sexiest Building
Architectural Addition Beats out Sydney Opera House, Others
MILWAUKEE - Oct. 19, 2010 - Milwaukee has been described as "The City of Festivals," friendly, historic, contemporary and now, sexy. Confirming that Milwaukee has a certain je ne sais quoi, the Milwaukee Art Museum's Quadracci Pavilion has just been named the world's sexiest building. The Quadracci Pavilion beat out the likes of the Sydney Opera House and Canada's Absolute World Towers to claim the title.
The list was compiled by members and editors of travel website VirtualTourist.com and cites the 10 sexiest buildings and structures from around the world.
"Calatrava's design has become the signature icon representing Milwaukee's cultural transformation," said Paul Upchurch, president & CEO of VISIT Milwaukee. "The structure and the location on our lakefront is symbolic of the urban renewal and revitalization that visitors find when they come to Milwaukee."
This is not the first time the Quadracci Pavilion has been recognized for its dramatic architecture. Time Magazine awarded the building Best Design in 2001 and People Magazine named it one of the three New American Beauties of 2003.
The addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum was completed in 2001 by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava. As the artist's first structure in the U.S., the building commands attention by using steel, wood and glass to reflect the majesty of the adjacent Lake Michigan. Its show-stopping yet functional Burke Brise Soleil feature arcs into the sky, opening and closing in line with the museum's hours of operation as well as midday. With the wingspan comparable to that of a Boeing 747, the Milwaukee Art Museum is a piece of art in and of itself.

American Bus Association Names "Mummies of the World" and German Fest
Two of North America's 100 Best Events for 2011
Milwaukee - October 5, 2010 The American Bus Association has named the Milwaukee Public Museum's "Mummies of the World" and Milwaukee's German Fest among the Top 100 Events in North America for 2011. Inclusion in the Top 100 list recognizes that Milwaukee offers excellent entertainment value to tour groups.
"Mummies of the World", which runs Dec. 17 through May 20, 2011 at the Milwaukee Public Museum, offers the largest and most diverse exhibit of mummies and related artifacts ever assembled. Milwaukee is only the second destination to play host to this exclusive, traveling exhibit. Treasures include one of the oldest mummy infants ever discovered, a German nobleman discovered in a family crypt and Egyptian animal mummies.
Milwaukee's German Fest celebrates its 31st year at the Henry Meier Festival Park along the shores of Lake Michigan July 28-31, 2011. Milwaukee's original "Haus Party", the largest cultural event of its kind in the U.S., features six stages of live music and dance, marketplaces, parades, nightly fireworks, live Glockenspiel and outstanding German cuisine.
"On the heels of last year's epic 'Dead Sea Scrolls', the Milwaukee Public Museum delivers yet again with its upcoming blockbuster 'Mummies of the World,'" said Paul Upchurch, president and CEO of VISIT Milwaukee. "The city's colorful German Fest has been a favorite with group tours for years, and both of these events prove that Milwaukee offers award-winning attractions in a small package, a combination of value and convenience that is hard to resist."
