A Brew or Two, Wisconsin Pure and True

Sprecher Brewery and Lakefront Brewery Offer Beers with Pure Wisconsin Ingredients

MILWAUKEE – Nov. 14, 2011 – Two iconic Wisconsin micro-breweries, Sprecher Brewery and Lakefront Brewery, currently offer a pair of true Badger State beers brewed from Wisconsin ingredients. These original craft beers are now being served at select locations across Wisconsin and select states.

In the latter half of the 19th century, hops enjoyed a boom in Wisconsin reaching heights of 20 percent of the world’s hops production. The boom, however, was short-lived due in principle to disease and prohibition, and the hops industry moved to the Pacific Northwest where it remains today.

Local Acre, a 2009 creation of Lakefront Brewery, is brewed with Nugget and Cascade hops supplied by Hortonville, Wisconsin and Mazomanie, Wisconsin farmers. These hops contribute the delicate bitterness with the mild hop flavor and slight citrus aroma. In addition to hops, organic barley used for Local Acre is taken from Wisconsin farms in Columbus.

Fresh Hop Amber Lager introduced by Sprecher Brewery in October 2011, is also brewed with pure Wisconsin hops. The base brew for this new craft beer is Sprecher’s own Special Amber. Fresh Hop Amber is then dry hopped on top of a thick bed of Wisconsin Cascade hops from the Wokatsch Farms in Wausau, Wisconsin to create Fresh Hop Amber.

Local Acre is currently available across Wisconsin, select areas in Florida and other states. Fresh Amber Hop is currently offered at select locations in Wisconsin with more locations to be announced soon.  Current locations include the Greater Milwaukee area, Three Lakes, Middleton, Wisconsin Dells, and Lake Geneva. For more information about these true Wisconsin craft beers, brewers and locations, please visit the Sprecher Brewery and Lakefront Brewery websites.

Cheers!

13 Top Holiday Happenings in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE – Nov. 8, 2011 – Charming old-fashioned shops, lively holiday festivals and traditional musical performances on a grand scale… winter is approaching and Milwaukee puts on a show once the snow falls.

Festivals, Parades and Ice Skating… Oh my!

The Frontier Airlines Center hosts a new holiday event called WinterFest, running Dec. 21-31. This 10-day festival features ice skating, screenings of classic holiday movies and wintry games such as an ice maze. Highlights include Radio Disney’s Family Fun New Year’s Eve featuring live entertainment, celebrity guest appearances and a big screen countdown of the ball drop.

It only takes one visit to the Pabst Mansion’s Grand Avenue Christmas to understand why its nationally-recognized holiday decorations draw more than 100,000 visitors annually. The mansion’s lavish, elegant furnishings are showcased with extra style, featuring a new theme every year. Locals swoon over the Dickens Dinner, a traditional English feast featuring Charles Dickens himself reading his holiday classic A Christmas Carol.

You don’t need a passport to travel around the world this holiday season! Learn more about the holiday traditions which molded how we celebrate today as well as customs that are unique to other cultures at America’s premiere multi-cultural festival, the Holiday Folk Fair International. This year’s festival theme is “Celebrate Cultures without Borders,” allowing Fairgoers to explore the ways in which cultural traditions enhance ethnic cooperation. Enjoy an assortment of ethnic foods, music, dance performances, arts, crafts and cultural displays during the 68th annual festival at the Wisconsin Exposition Center at State Fair Park, Nov. 18 – 20.

Light up the sky with Milwaukee’s Holiday Lights Festival, kicking off on Nov. 17 and dazzling visitors until the New Year. With more than 500,000 holiday lights, 350 wreaths and 35 animated sculptures, there is something enchanting for everyone. Be sure to ride the Jingle Bus, a 40-minute tour that highlights the city’s brightly festive spots.

Strap on your skates and glide at Red Arrow Park’s Slice of Ice. Whether you are an expert on the rink or a first-time ice skater, everyone is welcome to give this winter favorite a try while taking in the sights of Milwaukee’s picturesque skyline. Once you are done, step into the park’s Starbucks for a warm drink or unwind in the warming room, offering excellent views of what’s happening on the ice.

You could do your shopping at a bustling, overcrowded mall, or you can find more personal artisan gifts at one of Milwaukee’s hottest Lakefront attractions. The Holiday Artisan Market at Discovery World features local artisans selling their one-of-a-kind products, live music and complimentary gift wrapping to make your holiday shopping a relaxing, enjoyable occasion.

Rev up for a trip to the must-see Harley-Davidson Museum and soak up some of its holiday spirit. Seasonal highlights include the Yuletide Ride, a motorcycle holiday lights parade with a special appearance from Santa and his elves and a Holiday Sculpture Walk which showcases the imagination of local artists with their striking holiday tree sculptures.

The historic and charming North Point Lighthouse decks its halls with several exciting holiday events. The first is “A Victorian Night at the Light,” a fundraiser offering visitors gift ideas and holiday treats including tantalizing chocolate tastings. Next up is the “Victorian Holiday Celebration for Children,” giving children the chance to meet Santa, make vintage holiday crafts and indulge in a cup of warm hot cocoa.

Embrace a cherished holiday tradition at the 85th Annual Holiday Parade on Nov. 19. The route begins on Astor and Kilbourn, making its way down Kilbourn to end on Wisconsin Avenue and Old Third World Street. Come early and save your spot to ensure front-row views of your favorite parade pieces including 40-foot helium balloons, live music, costumed holiday characters and a live nativity.

Traditional Entertainment, Just As You Remember

Brighten your holidays with the Milwaukee Repertory Theatre’s annual production of A Christmas Carol at the Pabst Theatre. This local favorite returns for its 36th season with shows from Dec. 2-24. Even the most jaded holiday Scrooges can’t help but leave with a warmed heart and a smiling face thanks to the show’s vivid set pieces and delightful carols.

Witness a classic holiday spectacle at the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts with the Milwaukee Ballet’s annual ballet, The Nutcracker. Embark on the dazzling journey with unforgettable music and grandiose set designs that will leave you shining with holiday spirit.

The First Stage Children’s Theater has crafted a charming holiday show based on one of literatures most recognized youngsters. Junie B. in Jingle Bells, Batman Smells follows first-grader Junie B. as she deals with the overwhelming emotions and bustle of the holiday season. Lessons of gift giving and holiday spirit will leave your entire family glowing.

Cozy shops, twinkling lights, snow-lined streets… this spells out the holidays for some of us, and this is just what you will find 20 minutes north of Milwaukee in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. This charming small town offers countless exciting activities including horse-drawn sleigh rides, live music, luminaries, arts & crafts fairs, a city tree lighting and a special screening of the wonderful Miracle of 34th Street.

VISIT Milwaukee Hosts 50 Boomers in Groups Travel Planners
October Conference Connects Group Travel Leaders from Across the Country

MILWAUKEE – Nov. 3,2011 –Travel industry delegates from all over the country met with over 50 Boomers in Groups (BiG) travel planners Oct. 21-23 at the Crowne Plaza Milwaukee Airport. The conference created new relationships between destinations and travel planners who work directly with groups from the baby boomer generation.

Representatives from convention and visitors bureaus, attractions, casinos, restaurants and more from 15 different states connected with BiG travel planners during 6-minute, one-on-one appointments to discuss future opportunities. Roy Reiman, Greendale native and founder of popular visitor attractions such as the Reiman Aquarium at Discovery World and the Taste of Home Test Kitchen in Greendale, personally held appointments at the conference.

Attendees enjoyed sightseeing tours of Milwaukee, the Historic Village of Greendale, the Harley-Davidson Museum, Milwaukee Art Museum and the Milwaukee Public Museum’s newest exhibit “Cleopatra: The Search for the Last Queen of Egypt.”

“BiG was quite an experience for Boomer leaders, travel industry and BiG staff. Thanks, Visit Milwaukee, and all your partners for all the food, fun and the opportunity to visit the Cleopatra Exhibit at the Milwaukee Public Museum!” Attendee John Sandor posted on the Boomers in Groups Facebook page. “I’m still in awe of the amazing gold and stone artifacts from Cleopatra’s Egypt that were on display, especially the papyrus with her signature on a royal order from 200-300-BC!”
