Annual Bead&Button Show to Draw 14,000 June 1-10
MILWAUKEE – May 31, 2012 – The Bead&Button Show, the country’s largest consumer bead show, returns to the Frontier Airlines Center from June 1 through June 10. Jewelry-making classes commence on June 1 and run 10 days. Shopping in the Bead Marketplace with nearly 370 vendors is open to the public June 8 through June 10. The marketplace boasts an extravagant selection of beads and jewelry from around the world.
“Right now, beads are a key fashion item and beading is one of the hottest hobbies around,” according to Julia Gerlach, editor of Bead&Button, the country’s leading bead magazine. “People love knowing that they can create a fabulous piece of jewelry with just a few simple techniques and a strand of gemstones, pearls, or crystals. And, as in past years, this show will offer more beads and supplies than most people can even imagine.”
In addition to excellent shopping with one-of-a-kind items, the show offers more than 760 classes and workshops in beading, jewelry-making, wirework, metalwork, silver clay, polymer clay, and glass bead making. Classes range from beginning to advanced skill levels.
Throughout the show, attendees can view Bead Dreams, a museum-quality juried exhibit of art glass beads, jewelry, and sculptural items. Bead Dreams attracts entries from artists in this country and internationally.
Also returning to the show is the Bead Artists Against Breast Cancer silent and live auctions of beads, jewelry, books, and supplies. One hundred percent of the funds raised will go to the Medical College of Wisconsin, earmarked for breast cancer research. To date the Bead&Button Show has raised more than $200,000 for research to find a cure.
VISIT Milwaukee estimates an economic impact of $1.7 million to the local economy from this annual trade show.
Admission is $10 for adults; children 12 and under are free. The show is open on Friday from 10am-8pm, Saturday from 10am-6pm, and Sunday from 10am-4pm. For more information about the show, classes, auction, or raffle, call 800-554-0197 or visit beadandbuttonshow.com.
