MTNA convention at the Frontier Airlines Center

March 25-30

MILWAUKEE– March 18, 2011–  Music teachers from around the country will convene in Milwaukee for the National Conference of the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) from March 25-30. The MTNA’s aim is to advance the value of music study and music making and support the professionalism of music teachers.

The Frontier Airlines Center will be the headquarters for the annual trade show and conference, featuring seminars and workshops on professional development including teaching and performing techniques. Master classes from prominent musicians and teachers, as well as performance competitions will round out a full range of program offerings.

Keynote speaker for the conference is Bill Moore, author of the book “Playing Your Best When It Counts: Mental Skills for Musicians.” After many years of helping athletes perform under stressful conditions, Moore found that the same strategies used in sports psychology could be used to enhance the performance of musicians. Mental performance skills require that a musician develop a trust in his/her practiced technical skills in order to give the best performance when it counts.

Evening performances are free and open to the public. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis at the MTNA registration desk at the convention center for the ARC Ensemble from Canada’s Royal Conservatory of Music on Saturday, March 26th at 7:30 p.m.and for mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves at 8:00 p.m.on Tuesday, March 29th.
