Milwaukee – a city defined by an unusual blend of chic and casual coolness. Comfort and ease exist side by side with exciting amenities and a progressive attitude to create an unbeatable, gay-friendly destination.

Called “the most underappreciated gay Mecca in the U.S.” by The Advocate, Milwaukee is home to a number of organizations and annual events that celebrate the LGBTQ community. Milwaukee's famous Midwestern hospitality extends to all travelers, so come experience vibrant nightlife, award-winning restaurants, urban green spaces, and so much more.

Events and Organizations

PrideFest

For three days each June, Milwaukee's famous lakefront festival season kicks off with PrideFest, the nation's only pride festival held on permanent festival grounds. Here, thousands of festival-goers gather to enjoy world-class LGBTQ entertainment, sample some of the best food the city has to offer, and stroll through the marketplace. From music to comedy, drag performances to community discussions, everyone is welcome (and will have a blast!) at PrideFest in Milwaukee.

Milwaukee LGBT Community Center

The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center is dedicated to serving the needs of LGBTQ people and to making the Greater Milwaukee area safer and more inclusive.

Milwaukee LGBT Film/Video Festival

In the fall, the city welcomes the LGBT Film/Video Festival. This four-day event showcases work from around the world by, about and for the LGBT community.

Cream City Foundation

Cream City Foundation creates structural change by mobilizing philanthropic resources, collaborations, and educational efforts on behalf of southeastern Wisconsin's lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people.

Neighborhoods

Walker’s Point serves as one of the main gay residential areas in the city and hosts the majority of gay nightlife hotspots that range from mellow dive bars to full-scale nightclubs. Dozens of old warehouses in the Historic Third Ward have been converted into amazing lofts, art galleries, chic cafes, and lounges, and the East Side is home to some of Milwaukee's trendiest nightlife.

Where to Stay and Eat

With five TAG-approved hotels, and new projects and renovations continually popping up, Milwaukee's variety of gay-friendly accommodations (including boutique hotels and bed & breakfast options) is sure to impress. Milwaukee is also home to a number of Sanctuary Restaurants dedicated to providing a safe and affirming space for all guests and employees.
