Milwaukee has a long and storied connection to French culture dating back to some of the first Europeans to set foot in “The Good Land.” In 1674, Frenchman Jacques Marquette became the first recorded European to stay in Milwaukee. Landmarks documenting this history can be found throughout the city from Pere Marquette Park to Marquette University.
Each year, Milwaukee celebrates its French roots with Bastille Days in Cathedral Square Park. One of the nation’s largest French-themed celebrations, the festival features French cuisine, music, performances, entertainment and, of course, the iconic replica of the Eiffel Tower.
