Summer in Milwaukee comes with its own soundtrack. It’s a symphony of sounds that range from the whirring of the bikes flying through the USA Triathlon course to the roar of a crowd at a Brewers game. Nothing compares to the magnetic quality of live outdoor music, though. There are summer concert series and festival shows, but It’s Alive! Milwaukee is something else entirely. Here’s what to know.

What is It’s Alive! Milwaukee?

Running June 4 through August 30, the summer-long busker series is all about the unexpected, those magic moments that turn a walk along the RiverWalk into an intimate concert, just for you. Back for its third year, this free collection of concerts showcases the city’s local artists across six locations throughout Milwaukee.

You can stumble across your next favorite artist on a lunchtime walk, plan your day around a riverside show or sip your favorite brew, serenaded by a few new tunes as you explore the It’s Alive! Milwaukee stages. With everything from folk and rock to jazz and lyre music, you’ll find live music in iconic places all over town, soundtracking your every move all summer long.

People relax and socialize on a lawn in front of a classical building with large arching windows, while a food truck is parked nearby. Sunlight filters through the trees, creating a warm atmosphere.

Where Can I Find Buskers and Live Performances?

Spaced out throughout the downtown area—and at Wauwatosa’s Art 64 during the opening weekend—there’s a busker getting ready to play at six stages. All the world’s a stage, after all, and these are where you can catch them in action.

Art 64

On It’s Alive! Milwaukee’s opening weekend, you’ll want to head to Wauwatosa for an art-filled weekend of busking and a painting competition unlike any other. Featuring 64 artists, the bracket-style painting competition challenges each to create an original masterpiece in just an hour, going head-to-head for the chance to call themselves champions, and earning $20,000 along the way. The best part? You get to be the judge. All weekend long, you’ll find It’s Alive! Milwaukee programming throughout the Wauwatosa Village.

Lakefront Brewery

Pretzels and beer are a perfect pair, but live music and a cold craft beer on a warm summer day are inseparable. The brewery is once again hosting It’s Alive! Milwaukee throughout the summer, programming the patio stage with live music along the Milwaukee River. Grab a Riverwest Stein, Hazy Rabbit or a gluten-free New Grist, an order of their award-winning cheese curds and maybe a sausage platter, then kick back to the backing track of local music as you watch the boats float down the river.

Upper Bar

Between the Pabst Theater and the Marcus Performing Arts Center, Upper Bar joins the lineup this year. Perched high above the Milwaukee River, you can snag some pretty great riverside views along with sweeping shots of the downtown skyline, perfect to pair with the expertly-crafted bites, cocktails and the tunes as they waft through the warm summer air.

Milwaukee County Historical Society

A shaded park setting makes the Milwaukee County Historical Society the perfect It’s Alive! Location to pack a picnic, and relax to the sound of some of the best local music our city has on tap. The stage faces the lush Pere Marquette Park, with tons of room to slow down, spread out and watch the whole show. Then, stop inside the MCHS to learn more about Milwaukee’s rich and storied past.

Milwaukee Public Market

Sate your hunger and your love for live music all in one place this summer when you visit the Milwaukee Public Market. One of the best public markets in the country, here you’ll find lobster rolls you’ll rave about, pastrami sandwiches served with a dill pickle spear, brats grilled to order and salads made just the way you like. But you’ll also find local music just the way you like, too. On the patio dining area outside of the market, you’ll be able to take in the city’s rich creative scene in real time as you relax and enjoy your meal.

The Riverside Theater Boat Launch

An almost impossibly cinematic spot to catch buskers, the Riverside Theater boat launch is right along the water, and you’ll be able to hear the show from either end of the RiverWalk. Pop by on your way to see the Bronze Fonz or pull up in a kayak just long enough to hear the show. There’s no wrong way to experience live music after all, and this is a spot that’s perfect to swing by regularly for new tunes throughout It’s Alive! Milwaukee.

Two musicians perform outdoors in front of a colorful mural and a small audience. One person smiles while playing a yellow electric guitar, while the other sings into a microphone with eyes closed. Speakers flank the performance area, and a hand-painted tip sign reading "Hanna Simone" stands beside the singer. Blurred audience members and café-style tables are visible in the foreground.

Who’s Playing?

The lineup is now live! While there are still a few spots yet TBD, here’s where you’ll find every time, every show, every stage and everything you need to stay in the know for It’s Alive! 2026. Stop by for one or make it a summer-long tour all over town; the choice is yours.

A musician performs with an acoustic guitar on a riverside patio while seated guests enjoy drinks at nearby tables. Two speakers frame the performance area, and a guitar case with the performer’s name sits at the front. A river, trees and historic downtown buildings create the backdrop on a sunny afternoon.
