Milwaukee Attractions
For families who love to stay on the move, Milwaukee offers plenty of ways to turn sightseeing into hands-on fun. Start with a walk on the wild side at the Milwaukee County Zoo, where more than 2,200 animals prowl, lumber, fly, and swim across 190 acres. There’s also a petting zoo, a ropes course and up-close animal encounter tours for a little bit of excitement.
Or glide along Milwaukee’s many waterways courtesy of Milwaukee Boat Line tours, which will take you through the rivers and into Lake Michigan. There are plenty of themed cruises to choose from, whether your interest skews toward sightseeing, architectural appreciation, happy hour or, of course, yacht rock.
You can do some gliding indoors, too, at the Pettit National Ice Center. This state-of-the-art skating facility is an official training site for U.S. Speedskating and hosts the national team’s Olympic trials, but you don’t have to be a budding medalist to enjoy it. Public skating sessions are offered throughout the week, giving visitors a chance to experience the same ice as world-class athletes.
For hands-on discovery by the lake, head to Discovery World, a family-friendly science and technology museum on the shores of Lake Michigan. Interactive STEM exhibits, immersive experiences and the popular Reiman Aquarium invite visitors to explore science, innovation and the natural world together, making it an engaging stop for curious minds of all ages.
Add a dose of natural beauty at the Mitchell Park Domes, which houses more than 1,800 plants. Each of the three domes showcases a distinct horticultural environment, including desert, tropical and floral, and the venue also features special exhibits throughout the year.
