A striking new art installation will be unveiled to the public on Thursday, May 29, at 4 p.m. at the Milwaukee Public Market, thanks to a creative collaboration between Visit Milwaukee, Milwaukee Public Market and celebrated local artist Ike Wynter. The artwork, made from reclaimed wood salvaged from the set of “Top Chef’s” 21st season, honors Milwaukee’s dynamic food scene and its moment in the national culinary spotlight.

Commissioned by Visit Milwaukee and installed in 2025, the artwork pays homage to the “Top Chef” legacy in Wisconsin and the city’s thriving culinary industry, but it is also a nod to the spirit of creativity, sustainability and community that defines the destination.

“Fresh, Flavor, Forward is not just an art piece but a reflection of our commitment to arts and culture in our city,” said Josh Albrecht, chief marketing officer at Visit Milwaukee. “The residency at the Milwaukee Public Market not only encapsulates culinary excellence but also provides an opportunity for travelers and Milwaukee residents to see the art piece in person.”

The wall that once acted as the backdrop to the popular American culinary show will soon be given new life in one of the city’s top destinations. This new work takes its name from Visit Milwaukee’s tagline, “Fresh. Flavor. Forward.” It reflects the spirit of the city’s creative community and the culinary innovators who continue to elevate Milwaukee’s dining scene.

"This project is a testament to the power of partnership. Working with Visit Milwaukee and a talented local artist like Ike Wynter has allowed us to reimagine how our public spaces can tell stories about Milwaukee, and about the creative momentum that’s building across our city,” said Paul Schwartz, Executive Director of the Milwaukee Public Market and Business Improvement District #2. “We’re proud to work alongside Visit Milwaukee and an artist as creative and community-driven as Ike Wynter to bring this piece to life in our space. It honors not only Milwaukee’s moment on the national culinary stage but also our shared commitment to curating public art that tells our city’s story.

Ike Wynter, a Milwaukee-born, eco-sustainable wood artist, is renowned for his approach to creating art, using 100% reclaimed wood, without ever using paint or stain. This self-imposed challenge encourages Wynter to source all the colors in his pieces naturally, incorporating a variety of wood types, amplifying the depth and integrity of his work. His distinctive style and relentless passion have caught the attention of celebrities and companies alike, including Mike Tyson, the NFL and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Now with over 500,000 devoted social media followers, Wynter has built a global audience inspired by his story. He is a Milwaukee native who began with no formal art background and has since become a nationally recognized voice in sustainable design. His journey, marked by what he calls “delusionally optimistic” determination, motivates millions to pursue their potential while staying rooted in gratitude and everyday optimism.

Crafted locally from recycled materials, this installation celebrates Milwaukee while advancing Wynter’s mission to raise the city’s national profile through art, live experiences and the media attention generated by “Top Chef: Wisconsin.” Wynter added, “The wood in this piece once told the stories of chefs and competition. Now, it’s telling Milwaukee’s story, one of reinvention, heart and the power of reusing discarded materials to create something beautiful and lasting.”

Following the unveiling ceremony, attendees are invited to explore some of Wynter's works throughout the public market, featuring the new "Top Chef" set piece. The art piece will be installed on the landing of the second floor, adjacent to the elevator shaft.
