While the world gears up for the 2028 Summer Games, Olympic energy is already pulsing through Milwaukee. With Team USA events on deck and world-class venues setting the stage, Milwaukee is quickly becoming a proving ground for future Olympians.

From high-intensity wrestling duals to lightning-fast fencing bouts, the city is playing host to two major competitions this summer, both helping shape the next generation of Olympic hopefuls.

USA Wrestling Junior National Duals

From July 17–21, the 2025 Air Force Special Warfare USA Wrestling Junior National Dual Championship brought more than 5,000 wrestlers and spectators to the newly expanded Baird Center. Athletes from across the country competed in Greco-Roman and freestyle dual meets, each representing their state in a fierce battle for pride and national rankings. For many, this tournament is a crucial step on the journey to the Olympic stage, and the intensity is shown in every match.

USA Fencing Summer Nationals

Just days before that event, the Baird Center was already buzzing with action as USA Fencing launched into the 2025 Summer Nationals & July Challenge from June 28–July 7. The competition welcomed more than 11,000 athletes and attendees for one of the largest fencing tournaments in the nation. From youth to veteran divisions, competitors showcased their skills across Épée, Foil, and Sabre events, delivering Olympic-level drama with every bout. Whether watching a Y10 newcomer or a seasoned Division I contender, fans were treated to nonstop action right in the heart of the city.

Central to both events is the Baird Center itself. With 300,000 contiguous square feet of exhibit space and a $456 million expansion completed just over a year ago, the venue has quickly become a powerhouse for hosting large-scale sporting events. In just its first year, it has already seen everything from volleyball and MMA to fencing and wrestling, drawing thousands of visitors and athletes to downtown Milwaukee. With its central location, seamless access to hotels and restaurants, and flexible space, the Baird Center continues to raise the bar for sports tourism in the Midwest.
