Love dogs? Milwaukee has plenty of places for them. You’ll find off-leash and dog-friendly parks throughout the city, plus indoor options when the weather turns. These spots give you and your pup places to play and unwind throughout the city.

What to Know Before Visiting
Most of the parks listed here are operated by Milwaukee County Parks, and full rules and permitting information can be found on their website. While each site may have additional posted guidelines, here are some basics to remember.
- Dogs should be well‑socialized and safe around others.
- Make sure your pup has a current license and the required tags.
- You may bring up to three dogs to county dog parks, with a leash for each.
- Avoid food or glass containers in the parks, fill any holes your pup digs and clean up before you leave.

Parks for Your Pooch
Bay View Dog Exercise Area
Located just a few minutes south of downtown, the Bay View Dog Exercise Area is a one‑acre, off‑leash space with natural grass, trees and full fencing. Part of the area sits under a bridge that can provide shade on too-sunny days. It also features natural agility structures, and it’s within walking distance of Lake Michigan and several dog-friendly businesses in Bay View.
Currie Park Dog Exercise Area
In the western Milwaukee suburb of Wauwatosa, the Currie Park Dog Exercise Area is a grassy and wooded oasis for you and your furballs. The park is fully fenced in, and it features 10 acres for larger dogs and a separate 1 1/2-acre fenced-off area for smaller ones. The Oak Leaf Trail runs along the dog park’s southwest border, and just beyond the trail is the Currie Park Golf Course.
Downtown Milwaukee Dog Park
What once was an unused space under the I-794 overpass is now the beautiful and popular Downtown Milwaukee Dog Park. It boasts more than 23,000 square feet of play space for dogs and their owners, and it’s completely fenced in and divided into areas for larger and smaller tail‑waggers. The grounds are covered with pet-friendly artificial turf with tons of benches for you to kick back and watch your furry friend socialize. The Milwaukee River flows along the park’s eastern edge, and just across the river is the Milwaukee Public Market that has a patio in the warmer months for you and your pooch to chill after a walk in the park.

Estabrook Park Dog Exercise Area
A short distance west of Shorewood, the Estabrook Park Dog Exercise Area is nestled alongside the Milwaukee River. It’s part of the expansive Estabrook Park, known for its beer garden, disc golf course, multipurpose trails and playgrounds. Near the beer garden, you and your four-legged friend will find three fenced acres set aside for four‑legged visitors and their owners, divided into sections for large and small pups with plenty of natural space.
Granville Dog Exercise Area
If you don’t mind your dog getting a little wet, then the Granville Dog Exercise Area in northwest Milwaukee is the place for both of you. Although it’s 10 acres of grassland, hills and urban forest, it’s not fully fenced in, but the park does allow furry friends to play in the Menominee River, and it has a network of trails through wooded areas for you both to explore.
Roverwest Dog Park
The city’s most cleverly named pooch paradise, Roverwest Dog Park, sits in the lively and eclectic Riverwest neighborhood in northern Milwaukee. It’s an entire block of fenced-in natural grass and dirt, offering lots of space to roam and play fetch.
Warnimont Park Dog Exercise Area
Just steps from the shores of Lake Michigan, the Warnimont Park Dog Exercise Area has a little bit of everything in its fully fenced, 5-acre footprint. There’s a fenced grassy area for smaller pups and a larger dirt‑covered space for bigger ones, along with several trails through wooded areas for dogs and owners in a meandering mood.
