So you’ve finally found a few days to spend on that long-awaited golf tour with your friends. Well, it turns out, there’s no better place to do it.

Wisconsin, after all, is home to 10 of the 100 greatest public golf courses in Golf Digest’s 2023-2024 rankings. It also routinely welcomes the world’s best golfers and the most prestigious tournaments. In the past decade alone, Wisconsin courses have hosted a U.S. Open, U.S. Senior Open, PGA Championship and the 43rd Ryder Cup. But you don’t have to play like a pro to share their courses, nor must you play championship-level courses to enjoy a fun and memorable day on the links. Here’s a way to play up to two courses a day, using Milwaukee as your home base!

Day 1 - Milwaukee

Ease into things on some of Milwaukee County Golf’s 13 courses, which offer some of the Midwest’s best value for your buck. Warm up with a par 3 round on the shores of Lake Michigan, at either Warnimont Park or Lake Park. Stay by the lake with a round at Grant Park, the county’s first 18-hole course opened in 1920. Or challenge yourself on the county’s top course where Tiger Woods made his pro debut – Brown Deer Park.

About an hour southwest of Milwaukee, Lake Geneva caters to quick getaways and golf aficionados. But on the way down, take in a bit of history at Eagle Springs Golf Resort, Wisconsin’s oldest course and one of the first 100 in the country. Golf Magazine also named it the 23rd-best nine-hole course in the world. Afterward, continue on to Grand Geneva Resort & Spa and battle the lengthy Brute or scale the demanding Highlands. Don’t forget to book that post-round massage.

You’re following in the footsteps of the pros today. Head northwest to award-winning Erin Hills, host of the 2017 U.S. Open, which will challenge and charm you with its contoured landscape. Or head north to Destination Kohler, home to a majestic trio of courses at Blackwolf Run and the unparalleled experience of Whistling Straits, which hosted the PGA Championship in 2015 and the Ryder Cup in 2021. Your score might not be memorable, but those windswept views of Lake Michigan sure will be.
