A City, Reimagined in Motion

For 414 Day, Eric “Shake” James transforms Milwaukee into a living archive—where design, community, and memory converge in a singular expression of place.

Milwaukee Born

Eric “Shake” James is, at his core, a storyteller—one whose work is rooted in authenticity, memory, and place. His enduring connection to Milwaukee reveals itself not just in design, but in narrative—each release for 414 Day serving as both artifact and tribute.

This year, in collaboration with Visit Milwaukee, Summerfest, and a collective of local voices, James presents a layered exploration of the city’s evolution. From its early beginnings to its present-day cultural resonance, the project unfolds as a visual chronicle—mapping identity, heritage, and community across time.

There are no models here. Instead, the campaign is cast with intention: real individuals from Milwaukee—those who embody the city’s rhythm, texture, and truth. It is not a portrayal of Milwaukee. It is Milwaukee. At the center is the View Finder Samba—a study in both craftsmanship and narrative design. A genuine map of Milwaukee is printed across premium leather, unifying the city’s north, south, east, and west sides into a singular visual language. The tongue, rendered in deep navy leather, introduces a first: a translucent tag on the iconic Adidas Samba, reframing a classic through a contemporary lens.

Blue suede defines the eyestay and signature stripes, while precise red accents punctuate the silhouette with intention and contrast. The design is completed with three lace options, each subtly marked with Summerfest and Visit Milwaukee insignia—details that anchor the piece in both place and partnership.

This is more than a shoe. It is a document of a city—worn, lived, and told through those who know it best.
